OUTLINE OF PRESENTATION AND BIO INFORMATION ON DON C. EAST

Don C. East, a Clay County, Alabama native, has written a book entitled “A HISTORICAL ANALYSIS OF THE CREEK INDIAN HILLABEE TOWNS.” This new book is the first ever written about the Creek Hillabee Towns that were located in what is now southern Clay and northern Tallapoosa Counties in east central Alabama.
The book is packed with little-known details about the Hillabee Mother Town and the four associated Satellite Towns.  The co-located Robert Grierson (Grayson) trading post, ranch and factory is also covered in this 251 page book, which contains 52 illustrations (photos, maps and charts).
The book details the history of the Creek Indians of the Hillabee Towns from their known beginnings until their forced removals to Oklahoma in the 1830s. In doing so, several items relative to the history of Alabama are discussed.
After the Creeks removal, the book then takes up the early white American settler movement into the Hillabees area, with discussions of early settlements such as Bluff Springs, Pinckneyville, Clevelands Cross Roads, Millerville, Brownsville and Hollins.
The final portion of the book contains anecdotes concerning ways of life among the early white settlers that were borrowed from the departing Creek Indians.
The book comes in both a hard back ($32.00) and a soft back ($24.00) version and autographed copies will be available at the presentation.
Don C. East is a retired U.S. Navy Captain, Naval Flight Officer, now living on Lake Wedowee. He was immersed in Creek Indian tales, legends and ways of life during his youth from his grandmother, great grandfather and great great uncle of the Nail family, who were of Creek Indian blood.  East holds masters degrees from both Monterey College in California and Salve Regina College in Rhode Island and is a graduate of both the Naval and Air Force War Colleges. The presentation will be an overview of the highlights of the book and will last 30-45 minutes.
